Wellness Program FAQ
1. What is Motion Therapy?
Motion Therapy is an expanded vision of traditional physical therapy. Introduced to Birmingham by Mike Eskridge and Ethan White, Motion Therapy begins with clinicians and clients developing a shared vision for the client’s optimal level of motion and activity. EW clients then progress toward that goal through a structured, custom-tailored collection of proprietary, medically qualified programs.
2. Who directs these programs?
EW Motion therapists and specialists are an elite group of credentialed professionals, many with doctoral degrees, who were selected both for their intellectual and professional accomplishments, as well as their shared beliefs. These employees view the body as an integrated system and believe that optimal motion is defined by both body and mind. They educate patients and client as they treat the underling conditions.
3. What programs do you offer?
EW PT, EW Body, EW Run, EW Balance, EW Team, EW FIT, EW Yoga, and EW Pilates.
4. Do I need to have a referral from a doctor?
No. You do not need a referral for wellness programs.
5. Will my insurance cover it?
Most insurance companies do not provide coverage for wellness-based programs.
6. What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes that allow for easy movement and supportive shoes, such as tennis or running shoes.
7. How long will my appointment be?
You should allow approximately one hour. Your first appointment, which will be an initial evaluation, may be slightly longer.
8. Do you have a cancellation policy?
In order to not be charged for your session, we require 24-hour notice of cancellation.
9. Do we provide child care?
We do not.
10. Do I need to fill out any paperwork before coming to my first appointment?
No. Your motion specialist will complete the necessary forms during your initial assessment.
Physical Therapy FAQ
1. What are examples of typical diagnoses/problems that are treated in your clinic?
We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and motion dysfunctions – everything from spinal dysfunction, general orthopedics and post-operative rehabilitation to gait and balance dysfunction and women’s health issues. 2. Will I be treated by a licensed physical therapist?
Yes. All of our physical therapists are licensed by the Alabama Board of Physical Therapy and have completed an accredited physical therapy program.
3. How many times will I need to come to physical therapy?
Following your initial evaluation, your therapist will determine your level of function and make a recommendation to your physician regarding frequency and duration of treatment. Your physical therapist will regularly reassess the need to continue treatment and communicate with your physician about that.
4. Do I need to have a referral from a doctor for an EW PT, physical therapy evaluation?
No. You do not have to have a referral from a doctor to schedule an evaluation at EW PT. However, most insurance providers in Alabama still require a referral from a doctor for reimbursement. In the absence of a referral from your doctor, your therapist will design a plan of care to send to the physician for approval. Physician approval is necessary for the billing of your insurance provider for the initial evaluation and subsequent treatments. You do have the option to pay out of pocket for EW PT services. Check your policy for more details. For your convenience, you may download a Referral Form found on the Forms page to take to your doctor. Your doctor may choose to send your referral to us or you may bring it with you to your appointment.
5. How do I obtain a referral from doctor?
Your doctor can refer you directly to us. You can ask your physician for a referral. Or you can come at your discretion for an EW physical therapy evaluation and your therapist will send a plan of care to your physician following the PT evaluation for his or her approval.
6. Which medical professionals can provide a referral for physical therapy services?
Medical doctors, dentists, nurse practitioners, and chiropractors can refer patients to EW PT for physical therapy services.
7. Will my insurance cover my physical therapy?
EW PT is a provider for many insurance companies. For more information on this, please refer to our Insurance Information link. Please refer to your insurance policy or contact your insurance company for information specifically regarding PT benefits under your plan.
8. What should I wear?
You should wear comfortable clothes allowing easy movement during your therapy session. We supply shorts and gowns but you may elect to bring your own. Because you may perform exercises during your therapy session, it’s a good idea to wear supportive footwear, such as tennis or running shoes.
9. How long will my appointment last?
You should allow approximately one hour for your therapy appointments. Your first appointment may take slightly longer because it will involve a full evaluation of the issue(s) that brought you to EW.
10. What is your cancellation policy?
If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please call our office at least 24 hours in advance to reschedule. This will allow time for us to provide that slot to another patient. We reserve the right to charge $50 for appointments that are not canceled at least 24 hours in advance.
If you miss three visits in a row without canceling in advance, we will remove your remaining appointments from the schedule without notifying you. We reserve the right to charge $50 for each of these missed appointments.
11. Can I bring family members or my children with me?
Patients are welcome to bring family members if need be. For safety reasons, we ask that small children stay with you at all times while in the clinic. We do not provide in-house childcare.
12. Do I need to fill out any paperwork before coming to my first appointment?
You will need to complete paperwork prior to your appointment. This will include, but is not limited to the following forms: Acknowledgment of Receipt of Notice of Privacy Practices, Consent to Treat, Patient Information, Medical History, and Financial Agreement. These forms may be downloaded directly from the website by clicking on the Clinic Location link and then “Patient Forms.” Please plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early for your first appointment as your insurance may require that you complete additional forms.
13. How do I schedule an appointment?
