The EW Approach: Measure. Restore. Build. Refine.TM

From Restricted to Restored:
Your Path Back

Measure

Baseline & Assessment

Your recovery starts with a full evaluation of how your body moves. We assess range of motion, strength, stability, and movement quality to identify exactly what's limiting you.

The Goal:

Measure where you are now so we can build a clear, targeted roadmap to where you need to be.

Restore

Recovery & Movement

Treatment begins with restoring basic function. This phase focuses on reducing what's limiting you, improving how you move, and laying the groundwork for everything that comes next.

The Goal:

Restore movement without compensating, guarding, or avoiding the activities that matter in your daily life.

Build

Strength & Capacity

Treatment shifts to building the capacity you need to do more than just get by. You'll work on the movements, activities, and demands that matter for your life.

The Goal:

Build the strength, endurance, and confidence to return to what you've been missing without constantly thinking about whether your body can handle it.

Refine

Movement & Confidence

The final phase fine-tunes how you move and builds a personalized plan to maintain your gains long after treatment ends.

The Goal:

Refine your movement and establish a maintenance plan so you leave better than you arrived and stay that way.

Start Healing, Start Moving

There is a path forward. Request an appointment to start a plan that helps you get back to living without limitations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to start physical therapy? Alabama is a direct access state, so you can come see us without a physician referral. That said, some insurance plans still require one for coverage purposes, and the rules vary by plan. Give your nearest EW location a call, and we'll help you sort it out before your first visit.
What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring your insurance card, a photo ID, and any paperwork your doctor gave you (referral, prescription, imaging results). Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.

How long does each session last? Most sessions are 45-60 minutes, depending on your treatment plan and what you're working on that day.
How many sessions will I need? It depends on your condition, your goals, and how your body responds to treatment. Your physical therapist will give you an estimated timeline after your evaluation, but progress varies from person to person.
Will physical therapy hurt? You might feel some discomfort as you work through movements or rebuild strength, but physical therapy shouldn't cause sharp or lasting pain. Your therapist will adjust your treatment based on how you're responding.
How do I know if physical therapy is working?
You'll know it's working when you can do things you couldn't do before, whether that's walking without limping, bending without guarding, or returning to an activity you've been avoiding. Your therapist will track measurable progress throughout treatment.
Can I continue physical therapy after my insurance stops covering it? Yes. Many clients choose to continue with cash-pay sessions or transition to Clinical Pilates or personal training to maintain their progress. Your physical therapist will talk through options that make sense for your situation.
