SPORTS INJURY PHYSICAL THERAPY | BIRMINGHAM & TUSCALOOSA, AL

Don't Just Recover. Come Back Stronger.

Sports injury recovery designed for the athlete who refuses to lose time, strength, or their spot on the roster.

The Reality of Sports Injuries

Sitting out doesn't just hurt, it feels like falling behind.

Injuries can sideline your body and put your progress, opportunities, and confidence at risk. The pressure to return too soon only adds to that weight.

You need a team that understands what's at stake, not just the injury itself. Recovery means rebuilding the strength, mechanics, and mindset that got you here in the first place.

Come see us for a complete plan to restore your confidence and get you back on the field ready to compete at full speed, full strength, and full control.

Sports Injury Recovery

EW's physical therapy is built specifically for the demands of athletic competition, including cutting, pivoting, throwing, and other explosive movements that define your sport. We'll review how your whole body moves, not just the injured area. Every progression is tested and decisions are made with one goal:

Getting you back on the field, ready to perform confidently.

The EW Approach: Measure, Restore, Build, RefineTM

From Injury to Competition:
Your Path Back

1

Your physical therapist evaluates how your whole body moves, not just the injured area. We assess range of motion, strength, stability, and movement quality to identify exactly what's limiting you.

The Goal:

Measure your baseline to establish clarity and map a targeted path back to full activity.

2

Treatment focuses on reducing pain and inflammation while protecting healing tissue. You'll restore foundational movement patterns through controlled activation and mobility drills with a focus on safety.

The Goal:

Restore the basics like strength, mobility, and proprioception to support stable, efficient movement without setbacks.

3

Once symptoms are under control, treatment shifts to sport-specific loading and performance. You'll work through progressive resistance and power development tailored to the demands of your sport.

The Goal:

Build confidence under load through movement progressions that prepare you to perform at full intensity.

4

The final phase confirms you're ready and builds a plan for what comes next. You'll complete performance testing to verify clearance, then leave with a roadmap for maintaining resilience and preventing reinjury.

The Goal:

Refine your movement to support full return to play with a system to stay there long-term.

Questions Athletes Ask

How long will recovery take? It depends on the injury, your sport, and where you're starting from. Some athletes are back in a few weeks. Others need months. Your evaluation will give you a realistic timeline based on your specific situation.
Will I be able to play at the same level I was before? That's the goal. Recovery is about rebuilding the strength, mobility, and movement patterns that allow you to perform. Many athletes come back stronger than they were before the injury because they've addressed weaknesses they didn't know they had.
Do I need a referral from my doctor? Alabama is a direct access state, so you can come see us without a physician referral. That said, some insurance plans still require one for coverage purposes, and the rules vary by plan. Give your nearest EW location a call, and we'll help you sort it out before your first visit.
Can I keep training while I'm recovering? Yes, if it's done right. Part of your recovery plan is figuring out what you can safely do while the injured area heals. You're not sitting on the couch for weeks. You're working on what's productive and safe.
Will you coordinate with my coach or athletic trainer? Yes. If you're working with a coach, trainer, or surgeon, coordination happens to make sure everyone is aligned on your progression and return-to-sport readiness.
What if I've tried PT before and it didn't work? Recovery programs aren't one-size-fits-all. If a previous program didn't work, it's worth looking at whether it was actually built for your sport, goals, and body, or if it was a generic protocol. Your plan here is individualized.
Do you take insurance? Yes. EW works with most major insurance plans. Call the location nearest you to verify coverage, or bring your insurance card to your evaluation.
Can I continue physical therapy after my insurance stops covering it? Yes. Many clients choose to continue with cash-pay sessions or transition to Clinical Pilates or personal training to maintain their progress. Your physical therapist will talk through options that make sense for your situation.
What's the difference between this and just doing exercises at home? You get expert assessment, progression tracking, and sport-specific testing that tells you when you're ready to advance and when you're not. Trying to self-manage a sports injury without that structure is how athletes end up re-injured or back on the sideline.
